For the first time in its 100+ year history, the iconic program of the Boy Scouts of America will be open to young women. Scouts BSA is a year-round program for boys and girls in fifth grade through high school that provides fun, adventure, learning, challenge, and responsibility to help them become the best version of themselves.

For more than 50 years, the Boy Scouts of America has had fully co-ed programs. Since their founding in, 1953 the Sea Scouts have been co-ed.

The career exploration Explorer program has also been co-ed since its founding in 1969. In 1998 the high adventure Venturing program was spun off from the Explorer program, and has been co-ed since its founding.

These lesser-known programs have been wildly successful in training young men and women to be leaders, while allowing them to explore interests and hobbies that appeal to them. In 2018 the BSA opened the Cub Scouting program to girls through Family Scouting and girls-only packs.

On Feb 1st 2019, the BSA began chartering the first girls troops under the new Scouts BSA banner. First UMC Pearland is excited to offer this new Scouting opportunity to girls in our community.
